Kickin'!

Thursday morning at 5:30am I got kicked!  From the inside! It was pretty cool.  I've heard all these similarities to butterflies or gas bubbles, but really to me it felt like when a kitty stands on your belly, except going the other direction, and like a very small kitty.  Anyhow, it was pretty cool. Nugget and I headed to NYC with Alana this weekend visiting our cousins Jessica, Carmen, Michael, and Abby and good friend Celia. As an added bonus, we got to see Aunt Joyce and Uncle George over at the 'Carmichael' home today since Carmen is due to make them proud grandparents any time now.  Didn't get to meet the baby this weekend, but it was great to see them and the nursery.  Carmen also taught me that eating sugar makes the baby kick, and with the massive amount of eating this weekend I definitely got to put this to the test.  So far Nugget kicked for Mama Mexico fajita, a warm Shanghai chocolate soup dumpling, Waffles and Dinges, riding the subway, spinach gnocci with gorgonzola alfredo, Pinkberry frozen yogurt, Chanukah gelt. Someone's got a sweet tooth! Lets blame the baby.

Profile Progress- Month 4 Update

4 months (and change) along and not tons of news at this point, but I don't want to let the blog go cold!  Everything has been going great, generally feeling well, and we're getting more excited by the day.  Only downfall has been the 4 migraines I've had in the last month. Yuck!  My doc says that they are most likely triggered by pregnancy and I've got a few prescriptions from her lined up for the next time I get an aura.  No update on gender yet, but we have the "anatomy scan" scheduled for January 5th.  Anybody want to take a guess which it will be???  Not too much of a baby bump to show for all of this yet, but my weekly update Monday said Nugget is now about the size and weight of an avocado.  For now, just looking a little pudgy, and just enough of a bump to warrant ditching about half my wardrobe.  As an update to my last blog, my parents surprised me by baking a boston cream pie for Chanukah dinner last weekend which was very much appreciated.  Passover candy craving has passed over. Now it's all about grapefruit juice, cheese, and donuts (which I crave frequently and eat very seldomly).

Month 1: Vacationing in Las Vegas, out by the pool at Caesar's Palace:

Month 4: standing in front of out guest room...but it won't be for long! Anyone want to visit while we still have a double bed in there?

Food Cravings

There was a point today when I had a simultaneous craving for Boston cream pie and those jelly fruit candies you eat at Passover.  This is decidedly not normal.  I want to hear from YOU what is the weirdest thing you craved when you were pregnant, or maybe you've never been pregnant, but . . . let's say. . . under the influence?  Hit up the comment section of this post!! I'm sure someone can out-do me!

First trimester: check!

We've made it through the first trimester with smooth sailing.  I'm grateful for how well it's been going so far.  Any fatigue I had last week has faded, and the slight twinge of nausea is a thing of the past.  I've had to give up a few pairs of tight-waisted pants, but most still fit.  Starting to stock up on cute maternity clothes in anticipation for the next few weeks when I'll probably make the leap.

We went in yesterday for the first trimester ultrascreen, and while we don't have any official reports back yet, they did tell us the ultrasound looked great.  Nugget is growing right on target and apparently genetic abnormalities are less likely because the nasal bone is well-defined.  Does that surprise anyone who has seen the two of us?!  haha- irrelevant I know.  It was so exciting to get to see a sneak peek of Nugget!

The first picture we got to bring home was October 1st when Nugget was at 6 weeks, 4 days, and looked like this.  It was so amazing seeing the little flicker of the heart.

We thought we'd never see such a cute ultrasound, then yesterday's snapshot came along!  Right as soon as the ultrasound started, Nugget wiggled around, flipped around to face us, and reached up and wiggled all 5 teeny little fingers as if to say "Hi Mom and Dad."  We melted.

Then Nugget danced around some more, settled in, and laid perfectly still while all the measurements were taken.  So cooperative! Here's a profile shot:
We tried to see if they would take a guess if it is a boy or a girl but they have a policy that they don't share any speculations at this point.  Guess we'll have to keep waiting!

Revealing the big news

If you've made it to this blog, there's a very good chance you know that we are expecting.  We had fun trying to decide how to spill the beans.  We put all that energy of keeping our lips sealed into crafting a little kitty comic starring Alton and Olive.

Then Halloween came along and we decided to do a little reveal via costume to the folks around here who celebrated the holiday with us.  It was Alana's great idea for me to be a bun in the oven.  Julian was the baker.  Oven construction courtesy of Julian, me, and my friends Christy and Pez, who were around to help the day I was trying to make this thing.

Here's the moment after Lauren found out:

And Erev Yom Kippur, telling my parents and Alana that I would skip the glass of wine with dinner and would not be fasting all day. . . because we are pregnant.

And now for the meat (or tofu) and potatoes of the update:  The due date is May 23rd, which makes us almost 11 weeks along.  Got to see Nugget (baby Goodman's nickname) on an ultrasound 4 weeks ago with my mom, then again yesterday with Alana and everything is looking great.  Julian has been hard at work on service lately, but that won't be such an issue once Nugget arrives thank goodness.  I'm surprised how mild my pregnancy symptoms have been!  Feeling a bit on the sluggish side this week, not much to contend with these days on the morning sickness front, teeny bit of a baby bump that only I can see, and that about covers it. I feel so grateful that my body and Nugget have been cooperating.  It feels so good to have made it this far and we're hoping for more smooth sailing.  We hope you enjoy checking in for updates and pictures while we prepare for the baby's arrival.
