Growing, learning, playing, and being our cute Jonah bug...that's what he does!
|
Not so fast ... |
Growth: At Jonah's 18 month checkup, he finally broke out of the 5th percentile. He weighed in at 23 lbs, 9 oz (20%ile), height 31 1/4 inches (25%ile), and of course his head chugging away at 49 cm (75%ile)
Sleep: Jonah is fairly consistently drifting off sweetly at nap time 1-3, and snuggles his doggie and ducky to bed at night time, sleeping 9-7:30. His bedtime routine begins with a bath. We help him undress and he throws each article of clothing down the laundry chute one at a time. Then, he sits on his brand new little potty for a while and we sing and play peek-a-boo. Once, he even peed on it! In the tub, he enjoys lots of books and squirty toys (which he has just learned to squirt). He requests his bath books by name; "bigeh" is the book with the piggy and he makes a popping noise for Water Water Everywhere, in which there are "bubbles blowing bursting...(he makes a pop)." He gets cozied up in a towel with animal hood, admires himself in the mirror, gets jammies, a snuggle with Mommy, and kiss from Daddy, and goes into the crib.

This is what happens when we ask him to smile for the camera. |

This is not how he gets into his crib. Yet. |

Eating: Our little guy loves to eat. Some veggies have been a hard sell lately, but for the most part he gobbles down what is before him. Favorite treats at the moment are tofu, pizza (toppings-side first), clementines, Christmas cookies (rarely), lox, milk, ABC cookies at Mimi and Poppy's, the first half of a banana, and bagel with whitefish salad. He eats 4 times a day at home, 5 on school days. He is still pretty good in restaurants. As long as there is food in front of him, he's a happy camper. He has also mastered the skill of drinking from a straw, which is cute (and convenient). Jonah, being a boy, is not a huge fan of clean-up after a meal. To make it more entertaining, we count down ready, set, and he says "doh!!!" He gets a towel to the face, making his lips go bububububu, then a towel to each hand with the sound effect "vvvvvvvvvv," going up at the end, that he does along with us, smiling and laughing.

Personality: Jonah is a full-fledged toddler, and his emotions are strong. It can be a challenge, but it's part of this stage. Sometimes he reeeeeeeeeally really wants up and will stand at our feet, reaching up, crying relentlessly, and saying "upupupupup!" A moment later, he is happy as a clam, giggling at a game of peek-a-boo, which remains hilarious to him. He loves school, music class, and story time at the library. We will tell him where we are going, load him up in the car, then when we get there and we are unbuckling him he says "play!" or "Allie!" (who is in music class). He loves going to our basement "art studio" and busting out paints, crayons, markers, "pleh-doh," or whatever he gets. He always requests "bleuooo." Jonah loves books still and is really into his new dinosaur book about Chanukah. We went to Easton and to the downtown library where they have toy train displays for the holidays and he will watch with excitement for a long time, cheering with excitement, then sadly wishing for more while it is behind a hill or in a tunnel. We now watch videos of toy trains on Daddy's computer, along with playing "A." His love for the alphabet continues, and he will excitedly identify letters he sees on license plates, signs, cookies, and books. Jonah and the puppy Darby have become BFFs; they like the same toys, roll around, and play very nicely together. Another favorite activity is to take Mommy's phone, hand it over, and request who he would like to see a picture of. He will look through photos for quite a while, naming them all, which makes for nice snuggle time. Jonah loves to help clean up, and by that I mean he will drag a vacuum, broom, or dustbuster all over creation. He also does put toys away pretty well, needing cued to do so most of the time. Jonah is not interested in TV still, which is fine, but will grab the remove and request "ballball" and pay attention for a split second of football. When we come home, he likes to press the garage door button and go check the "maaaaail" and he hands each piece over saying "mama" or "dada."

Milestones: Jonah has a pretty good run going when he wants to. We think it's just darling to see him flying across the floor. He can identify all the major body parts; the new ones are neck and elbow. We talk a lot about colors, but he just talks about blue so far. He knows too many animals and noises to count, and his hands-down favorite at this moment is owl. We can't believe how many words he can say. Not joining them together yet, but he certainly gets the idea across. Here are some of our favorites:
owl = aooooo
play-doh = plado (the p is whispered)
game = em
dog = wuhwuh or daga
I love you = uvoo (just like his Mama said)
Darby = Dardee
Allie = Ayeee
more = mah
toe = do
ukulele = lay lay
bagel = bayguh
pee (whispered)
milk = meal

Events: Grandma, Grandpa, GG, and GG came to town to celebrate Thanksgiving and GG Merrill's 88th birthday. We had so much fun having Lindsay's family over as well and we were a thankful and festive 22 guests.
