The Big Birthday Bash

We had a great time celebrating Jonah's big day! We were so lucky to have Grandma, Grandpa, GG, and GG come in from out of town to help with the festivities as well as all of the preparations.

First, we celebrated at school. They had the room done up for his birthday and they baked cupcakes for all of the kids (those old enough, at least). It was Jonah's first cupcake; he loved it! After school we took him to Piccadilly, an indoor play area in Bexley. He had a great time crawling around and playing with their toys.
How old is Jonah? 1!

Shockingly, the crown stayed on!

He really dug into the cupcake!

The big birthday party came on Sunday. We had a theme of "My Favorite Things," which is Jonah's favorite song, with various items such as bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens strewn about. We made drinks called "Raindrops on Roses" (strawberry lemonade, vodka, and blue ice cubes) and "Whiskers on Kittens" (the same without the vodka). There was a lot of brown paper. We served apple streudels with dessert.
If you didn't get a chance to write Jonah a birthday wish, the jar is still here!

After all the guests arrived, Jonah made his grand entrance in his new wagon from Grandma and Grandpa. He met and greeted everyone and spent some quality time playing with friends Emmett and Charlie. After some mingling, we all came into the living room and Poppy played the piano while we first sang Grandpa's Jonah-based lyrics to "My Favorite Things," then the song with original lyrics. Quite a production! This was followed by a four-tiered cake Mommy and Daddy baked and a rousing "Happy Birthday." We gave Jonah the top tier, his own little cupcake covered in blue frosting. He loved it! He played with it a bit and then ate it up.

That's how it's done!

We gave Jonah a mini bath after that, then went back to playing. We had a lot of fun outside with bubbles, tailgate golf, and a new water activity table from Mimi and Poppy. There was sidewalk chalk and guests were prompted to draw their favorite things.  Jonah had fun with his cousins, including two girls in white dresses.  Eventually all of our friends had to go, but we had a great time celebrating with everyone!
