Growth: Jonah is right around 40 inches tall as measured by workers at the fair. Tessa had formal measurements at Dr. Koester's office and is 30 pounds (82nd percentile), 34 inches (51st percentile), and head is 49 1/4 cm (87th percentile).
Sleep: Bedtime has been pretty much in the 9:00 hour. Jonah has been asking for snuggles at bedtime and naptime which can go on for a long time. Just recently Jonah has started sleeping with Ducky as well as his lemur ("Water-Love-Water-Water-Water") and new stuffed Lobster Jr. from Prince Edward Island. Jonah still usually wakes up around 7 and Tessa closer to 8:30 or 9. She still sleeps with Knuffle Bunny, Mookie, and Pony. Of course, on the first day of school, Jonah slept until 8:15. Go figure. He wakes up and comes into our room and likes to play or watch something on the tablet for a while before getting ready for the day. They still go down for nap around 2, but more and more often Jonah has had difficulty finding his sleep. He still rests quietly in his bed during that time, at least. He gets a little more tablet time when he wakes up. Tessa gets up from nap and pretty much every day asks to watch Frozen.
After a long evening of playing outside, she lay down on the outdoor couch and asked to go to sleep - and then for her Knuffle Bunny! |
Eating: They're still voracious and not at all picky. They really love desserts and will ask for several different desserts after meals. They're ready to go back on a cruise!! We went out for sushi the other night and it's amazing how much they love it! They still really enjoy seeing our weekly produce deliveries from the "veggie van" as well as exploring our garden. They will just pick leaves off of our various potted herbs and start chewing on them.
Elegant establishment! |
This sums up the kids pretty well. Drinking San Pelligrino while unloading the cooler from the veggie van. |
Baking a cake for Daddy's birthday |
Personality: Jonah and Tessa are still the best of friends and we've gotten to the point where we can actually leave them unattended in a room together for a while and they'll play nicely with each other. Jonah has really loved all of his summer camps and went in like a champ. Tessa is incredibly sweet and loving and will say, " Uvoo so much!" regularly. She still does have the occasional T-storm and has definitely had a strong Mommy preference for many things recently.
Talking on the phone |
Books: Jonah has three books in the "Corduroy" series that he really enjoys, as well as Grover Goes to School. Tessa loves her pop-up Sounds of the Seashore. They've also been reading a lot of a new book from Nova Scotia from Grandma and Grandpa's recent trip there. We've been revisiting Dragons Love Tacos and Secret Pizza Party as well. We ask Jonah to tell us about them, and he says they're written by Adam Rubin and illustrated by Daniel Tiger. Close!
Play: We still love getting outside and riding vehicles around the driveway as well as up and down the block, to the playground, to Johnson's... Jonah is getting more creative with Legos, building towers and other contraptions out of Duplos. He also loves disassembling and reassembling the few regular-sized Lego kits he has. Tessa is really enjoying her baby doll. She loves playing "baby walk" where she puts baby in the stroller and wheels her around the house.
Jonah's animals all celebrated birthdays this month! |
Milestones: Tessa is talking more and more and will regularly use full sentences. Her teeth are all the way in at this point. She is getting back to her potty training and will more and more ask to use the potty and then actually use it! Jonah is getting better and better at reading and will sound out words pretty quickly, and can identify several "sight words" quickly and accurately.
Events: It's been so busy these past two months!
We started off with the usual July 4 festivities. Grandma and Grandpa were in town for the parade, then off to Mary and Greg's from brunch, Cheryl and Larry's for swimming and dinner, and finally the Bexley fireworks that evening.

Red, white, and blue bagels are always a hit as well |
Annual wagon ride to Bexley Park |
Yes, she fell asleep in Mary and Greg's swing! |
Pinball wizard |
Lindsay and Poppy took Jonah camping for the first time, and he loved it! He took to it like an old pro. He was very helpful in setting up the campsite and preparing meals. He loved hiking in the woods and playing out by the fire. He was an excellent listener the entire trip!
We're so excited that the Evanchans moved back into town! The Prescotts came to visit us for a weekend and we all got together for dinner, just like old times. The kids had a blast playing together!
CSI: Bexley |
It's still fully summer, but the kids went back to school mid-August. They're very excited to use their new backpacks. So far they love their new classrooms! Tessa has been a little clingy at drop off time, but she gets into playing very quickly and is really having a good time.
We had lots of trips to the zoo for zoo camp including one with Grandma and Grandpa and one with the Rubins. Tessa has overcome her fear of animals and really loves the pony rides now!
Can you spot Jonah at zoo camp? |
Lots of birthday parties too, including Cooper's at World of Bounce and Ian's at their house.
The kids finally got their hair cuts somewhere other than cookie cutters! Tessa went to a salon and Jonah to the Bexley Barber Shop.
We had a few fun trips to COSI as well including seeing large farm trucks. Jonah is now a local celebrity!
We made trips to both the county and state fairs. Lots of fun for everyone!
