We spent August soaking up every moment of Jonah smiles and snuggles while enjoying some new adventures and firsts. Somehow this baby keeps getting cuter. It's insane really, because it doesn't seem possible. He's happy, playful, cuddly, and pretty chill most of the time.
Growth: At Jonah's visit with Dr. Koesters last week, he weighted in at 12 lbs, 6 oz, and measured 23 1/4 inches. That's still the 10th and 3rd percentiles, respectively, and she says he's doing perfectly and looks just great. The vaccines put him off his game for a few days, but he had a good checkup otherwise. He is wearing size 0-3, but we're eyeballing the 3-6 things since he's getting close to that point.
Sleep: This is about the same as last month. He goes to bed between 9 and 10 and gets up between 7 and 8. He is sleeping in long PJs and a "sleep sack" with his arms free, which is new. For naps he seems to sleep a lot better with his arms swaddled still, and the times are a lot more variable. Generally he's doing 2-3 short naps (less than an hour) and one longer nap (1-3 hours). Sometimes he sleeps in the crib, but he falls asleep easier and sleeps longer in the rocking bassinet.

Eating: Jonah does just great "from the tap" as Julian says, but the bottle has been a real project this month. We try everyday to give one bottle and have read every tip out there. Last week we upgraded him from a "D," where he would cry and get down about a half ounce in a half hour, to a "B," where he can now take 2-4 ounces in 20 or so minutes without any tears. It sounds like he has been doing fairly well with the bottle at school.
Personality: We are absolutely loving Jonah's smiling face! He will smile back at us most of the time and it only makes us smile more. Addictive!! He's pretty happy to lie down anywhere he can look around and see stuff, unless, of course, he's hungry or tired. Then, he'd love nothing more than to eat or be carried or better yet taken outside.

Milestones: Jonah is getting stronger yet! He still mostly whimpers and slobbers when you put him on his tummy, but in the last week he has started pushing up through his arms and lifting his head and looking around for about a minute. On Sunday, we were doing some tummy time with him and he rolled onto his back! Then again! But not since. From his back, we can pull him up by his hands to sitting (slight head lag) and from there he straightens out his legs and stands himself up with us holding just his hands. It's so funny to see him standing because he's so little, and he immediately looks down and to either side inquisitively, perhaps stunned to see the new perspective. Jonah has an infant seat that allows him to sit supported and he seems to love it, looking around, smiling, and playing with toys. He especially likes his blanket animals, which he can now reach for, hold, and eat. He also likes to eat his outfits, so toys like this come in handy to keep him dry. If toy or outfit is not reachable, he sucks on his left fist, using the right one to guide it in. Vocabulary is pretty similar to last month. Yesterday he had a sort of conversation with Lindsay saying "ooo" back and forth quite a few times. Jonah learned last weekend that he can splash in the bath, which all 3 of us find utterly hilarious. He flails his arms and kicks his legs swiftly, then stares quietly at them with wide eyes, alternating these for several minutes.

Events:
This month, Jonah got to meet his cousins Carmen and Ella from New York. They seemed to enjoy playing together in the nursery. She is so cute! It's great that he has a cousin right around his age!
Jonah has been enjoying baby yoga class. He likes looking up at Mommy during her yoga poses and smiles when we do "wheels on the bus" or "the yogi yogi" (hokey pokey). He also likes to roll onto his side to face the little girl next to him. . . what a flirt!
Julian had a big birthday this month, and we had some good friends, Ari and Nicole, in from Chicago to help celebrate and meet Jonah. We are so thankful they made the long trip here. Thanks to all of our good friends who helped Julian celebrate the big 3-0.
On Julian's actual birthday, Lindsay packed every beach themed outfit and book we have and we hit the road for a little vacation on Lake Michigan. Jonah did great on the 5.5 hour drive to Saugatuck and we only needed to stop a few times on the way up and once on the way down. It was a memorable experience feeding him in the car in fast food parking lots! We spent the week at the beach, shopping, peach picking, and spending quality time playing with Jonah in the condo. The kitchen sink bath was silly, but Jonah loved it just the same. We're not sure how much he appreciated the beach, but the sound of the waves put him right to sleep just like they do every night at home...only this time it was a live performance!

When we got back from vacation it was time to do some "-to school shopping." We are both suckers for cute baby clothes, and Baby Gap delivered! It won't be long before it's cool enough for Jonah to don his new knit sweater, button-down onesie, and blue jeans.
Work and school have been a big transition, but week #1 went as well as you could hope. Lindsay is working MWF from about 10-2, and the teachers all say Jonah is eating well, happy, and "chill." He has had no trouble being handed off, and we have felt comfortable with his care at the JCC so far. One of his BFFs, Alex, is in class with him. At pickup on the first day, the two of them were facing each other making faces and playing. Wish we'd taken a picture, but he was too scoopable and kissable to resist a moment longer. The hardest part, besides missing him like crazy, is leaving the house with all of Jonah's school things, work things, pumping things, gym things, lunch, and whatever else is needed for that day's errands.

Today, Jonah had another big first. He became a Buckeye 4 months ago, but now he has had somewhat of a Buckeye baptism, having now been to the Shoe for a football game. Poppy marched on the field with the OSU alumni marching band. It was a real scorcher, so we mostly hung out in a shaded area with a breeze, but came out to our seats for pre-game, the first possession, and halftime. The band did great, and seeing 4 script Ohios gives you chills even in 90-degree weather.
